Alex Bores
Alex Bores (ILR ‘13) will begin his two-year term on the Board of Trustees on July 1, 2011. He will serve as a member of the following committees: the Committee on Government Relations; the Committee on Academic Affairs; the Committee on Student Life; and the Trustee Community Communications Committee. Mr. Bores was born and raised in New York, NY.
Mr. Bores is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Labor Relations and a minor in Economics. In addition to his schoolwork, Mr. Bores is President of Phi Alpha Delta, Cornell’s pre-law fraternity, and President of Half-in-Ten, an anti-poverty group. He serves as a student representative on the Licensing Oversight Committee and the Union Days Planning Committee. Mr. Bores conducts research on union organizing campaigns with Professor Kate Bronfenbrenner. He competes for the Cornell Forensics Society, having competed at the previous two Debate World Championships. Last year, as President of Cornell Students Against Sweatshops, Mr. Bores led a campaign to uphold Cornell’s Code of Conduct with regard to apparel licensees, for which he and the group were given the Sol Stetin Award for Social Justice by the American Labor Museum.
Mr. Bores is a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity, the Cornell Roosevelt Institute, Conflict-Free Cornell, and ILR Student Ambassadors. He has been a Research Fellow at the ILR Extension Center in New York City for the past two summers. In his spare time he enjoys reading and taking part in Cornell’s many intramural sports.
