Women’s Issues Committee Meeting Minutes

Introductions:
New member: Christine Yao - GPSA position- sitting in on the meeting to stay informed as to what the undergraduate initiatives and women’s issues are.
News:
- Approval of judicial code amendment
- CDS article Feb 9th - inappropriateness

- We were appalled at the fact that this article was admitted into any news source, especially the Sun.
1. I. Spring Semester Initiatives
- more outreach *** - we would like to work on expansing out outreach this semester in order to set the tone for the next semester.
- International women’s issues week - helping to plan events
- Dinning with diverse leaders- March 31st-SHAPE launch: April - different event every week * Take back the night April 26
2. III. Blue Light Escort Service Survey review
- Safety committee’s presentation of their Blue Light Survey- Sarah Balkin
- suggestions included: adding a preface with statistics and reasons as to why the survey is being conducted ( recent years sex. assault statistics)
- making the survey more concise −5 questions max
- changing the target audience. The survey should be geared more towards students who have not used services, and gaining their opinions on its efficacy versus the small percentage that has used the service.
3. IV. WIC Sponsored event
- members desire to host an event as a committee.
- recognition that with the SA women’s seat and the SHAPE initiative, women’s issues and organization should have more prominence next semester, but members hope to help with this initiative by sponsoring an event this semester.
