III. Business of the Day
Appeals/ Budget Caps
Y. Neverova announced that that the Student Assembly was considering taking the SAFC polo shirts away.
Discussion ensued amongst the commission.
L. Jennings made announcements to the commission as a campus campaign coordinator for Teach for America. She discussed the program, and then gave the commission contact information and informed them about the website application and deadlines.
Y. Neverova said that this Saturday is appeals day. She asked the commission to be at the Inernational Lounge in Willard Straight Hall at 9:30, and that breakfast will not be served although there will be a lunch break at 12:00. She said this will be different from the budget hearings, in that there would be no allocations or necessary note-taking. Neverova added that during the appeals the commission will vote as a group to either grant or deny a group’s appeal. All the commissioners needed to be there in case they have to explain what happened at the hearing, and if they made a mistake to discuss why. She said that help sessions would be this Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30 to 5:30. She said that if anybody had questions about attendance, to email B. Schreff.
C. Feng told the commission that appeals should be short if everyone turns up. He said that the caps for co-organized events would be $9000, although no one asked for more than $8500. Regular caps were set at $8500, and the caps for club sports was set to $5500.
Y. Neverova explained that the maximum allocated to club sports as a whole is 25% of the budget.
L. Rosenblum asked if there was any money left over for roll-over funds.
Y. Neverova responded that there was $19000, and that the commission would try and max out as much as possible. Afterwards she showed the appeals application form, from which the groups could choose 5 categories to apply for. These included findings and facts, applications of the rules, and new information, from which the groups can apply for special projects funding.
V. Pillet asked the commission how they felt about having pizza for the appeals on Saturday.
Y. Neverova asked if the commission had any questions about caps, what to look for on Saturday, or suggestions about guideline revisions.
A. James asked if there would be a revision discussion after appeals.
IV. Meeting was adjourned at 5:35 pm.
Respectfully Submitted,
