April 7, 2013 Letter To President Re: R. 36

Dear President Skorton,

Thank you very much for your response. While the resolution, in it’s current form, advocates for the creation of an international student center, many members of the Student Assembly do understand how complex of an issue this can be. As you mentioned, the ope as well as the Student Assembly’s priority is to start working with the ISSO to establish a space that can serve as a gathering place for international students while they also access the ISSO for its many resources. The SA does not currently advocate for the consolidation of all academic and/or residential programs that serve international students in this proposed center - as of now that would be inefficient and requires a longer term discussion and investigation.

In order to proceed, we would be happy to form a group of students to convene with Dean Hubbell along with the Student Assembly International Representative and ISSO Staff to work on establishing this gathering adjacent to the ISSO that the SA feels would help in supporting the needs of international students.

We wholeheartedly hope that this gathering and additional resource space for international students (along with international staff and faculty) will be thoroughly investigated and eventually come to fruition.

Best,
Adam
