SA: Resolution 36 Appendix

Student Assembly Residential & Community Life Committee
February 12, 2013
4:30pm — 5:30pm
Rockefeller 105

I. Regarding the Establishment of an International Student Center

II. After reviewing the resolution and engaging in discussion with the sponsor, the committee unanimously approved the resolution. The committee had the following recommendations for the sponsor:

  1. Investigate and devise an inventory of spaces that currently exist on campus that could possibly support such a center.

Further engage with other international students to define exactly what needs are not being met and what services this new space could provide.

  1. Examine how this new center would fit into the existing spaces and structures; being cognizant of the fact that the international identity fits into current umbrellas for particular groups (e.g. BSU, LAL, etc).

The committee felt that international students do have specific needs that are not currently addressed, but could be addressed by an international student center. The committee hopes that the ISSO will work closely with higher administration and the Dean of Students to create such a center.
