From the Cornell Assemblies

SA: December 19, 2012 Letter From President Re: R. 20

Dear Adam,

Thank you for sharing Student Assembly Resolution 20, “Calling for the Hire of an Associate Dean of L.G.B.T.Q. Outreach.” Through the support of this resolution, you display deep consideration and thoughtfulness for the LGBT Resource Center and the community members it serves.

I reviewed the resolution with Student and Academic Services Vice President Susan Murphy and Dean of Students Kent Hubbell. We agree that it is important to address the current climate as reflected in recent bias incidents; however, at this time, neither the university nor the division of Student and Academic Services is able to add a second full-time position for the LGBT Resource Center. We are continuing to review existing support structures throughout the campus to determine ways to enhance university-wide responses to fulfill the needs of our community. The proposal in SA Resolution 20 will be considered as one of the many possible solutions to address those needs. I look forward to working with the Student Assembly and developing some of those solutions.

Thank you again for your support of the LGBT community.

Sincerely,

David Skorton
