S.A. Resolution 42: Proposed Changes to the SAFC Guidelines
Sponsored by: Lawrence Kogos ‘13, Brandon Coulter ‘13, Roneal Desai ‘13
Whereas, the Student Assembly (the Assembly) has both legislative and judicial authority over the Student Assembly Finance Commission (the Commission);
Whereas, Section 1.3 of the Assembly Charter titled “Welfare of the Student Community” states: “The SA will have the authority and the responsibility to examine any matters which involve the interests or concern the welfare of the student community and to make proposals concerning those issues to the appropriate officers or decision-making bodies of the University”;
Whereas, many groups have requested funds in excess of the funds which they have spent over the past years leading to 20% of funds to go unused on average per year;
Whereas, changes to the SAFC process implemented by the Student Assembly have increased the percentage of funds successfully applied for but have as a result lowered caps for all groups by causing the Commission to allocate on average more per group;
Be it therefore resolved, that the SAFC Guidelines be revised as written in the attached Appendix (Appendix A).
