SA Resolution 36: Medical Amnesty Decal Distribution

Sponsored by: John Mueller ‘13, Adam Gitlin ‘13

Whereas, it is the Student Assembly’s “responsibility to examine any matters which involve the interests or concern the welfare of the student community.”

Whereas, many students are still unaware of the New York State Senate’s adoption of a “Good Samaritan Law.”

Whereas, students in Collegetown will now be able to call 911 when someone’shealth is at risk as a result of a drug or alcohol overdose without the threat of criminal charges being brought against the victim or any witnesses, according to the language of New York State’s new “Good Samaritan Law.” (Appendix A)

Whereas, in September 2011, the Student Assembly adopted Resolution 9, “Off-campus Promotion of Medical Amnesty” and the S.A. Student Health Task Force in conjunction with Gannett Health Services designed “Call for Help” decals and information sheets to off-campus residences inhabited by Cornell students.

Be it further resolved, that the Student Assembly calls on the student body - specifically students who live in Collegetown - to display the decals in their residences.

Be it further resolved, that the Student Assembly (i.) publicize the program to encourage as many students as possible to display the decals and (ii.) organize a distribution delivery/pick-up location.

Respectfully Submitted,

John Mueller ‘13
Student Health Task Force Chair, Student Assembly

Adam Gitlin ‘13
Executive Vice President, Student Assembly
