S.A. Resolution #14: Adding an Undergraduate Student-Elected Trustee to the Board of Trustees
Sponsored by: Roneal Desai ‘13, Alexander Bores ‘13, Darrick Evenson, grad
Whereas, the Cornell Board of Trustees used to contain 5 student members until it was contracted in 1984
Whereas, when the Board was expanded in 2002, student seats were not restored
Whereas, since 2006, when the two student seats were split between graduates and undergraduates, students in even-numbered class years have not had a fair opportunity to run for the Board, because they are required to run as freshmen
Whereas, adding another student-elected trustee to the Board would improve the critical ability for students to communicate to the Board of Trustees, improving students’ quality of life
Whereas, the addition of a student-elected trustee would help communicate the rationale behind Board decisions to students
Whereas, having another student-elected trustee would allow students to serve on each committee, fulfilling their role to bring the student perspective to university level decisions
Be it therefore resolved, that the SA supports the addition of a second undergraduate student-elected trustee to the Board; and
Be it further resolved, that the SA urges the Board of Trustees to establish the new seat in time for elections to be held by the end of this school year.
Respectfully Submitted,
