Resolution 4: Distribution of SAFC Funding Guide to Student Organizations
Whereas, the Student Assembly (the Assembly) has both legislative and judicial authority over the Student Assembly Finance Commission (the Commission);
Whereas, the Assembly has legislative oversight over the Office of the Dean of Students according to the Article III of the Student Assembly charter,
Whereas, the Office of the Assemblies falls under the Office of the Dean of Students,
Whereas, Section 1.3 of the Assembly Charter titled “Welfare of the Student Community” states:
“The SA will have the authority and the responsibility to examine any matters which involve the interests or concern the welfare of the student community and to make proposals concerning those issues to the appropriate officers or decision-making bodies of the University”,
Whereas, groups applying for SAFC funding historically have often erred on their application on the basis of documentation, normally being rejected for about 30% of requested funds on an annual basis,
Whereas, recent changes to the SAFC approved by the Student Assembly have altered processes which many treasures of SAFC-funded organizations are unaware of;
Whereas, the creation of annual budgets produces a risky possibility for student organizations to misappropriate funds in the fall semester which was impossible in past years due to semester caps,
Whereas, the SAFC online application is currently available online, yet groups were only given 10 days to complete the application online;
Be it therefore resolved, that the Student Assembly requires requests the Office of Assemblies to place the attached guide on the SAFC website on the page titled “Applying for Funds” as a link under the “Helpful Resources” section, pending necessary and appropriate changes,
Be it further resolved, that the guide be sent out to student organization leaders over the SAFC-info list serve.
Respectfully Submitted,
Roneal Desai ‘13 SAFC Liaison, Student Assembly
