Student Assembly

Whereas, the Student Assembly has the potential to engage the student body, help alleviate stress among students and encourage a campus-wide commitment to mental health and a supportive community;

Whereas, the Student Assembly held a very successful Lift Your Sprits Event last semester and was urged by both students and administrators to repeat a similar type of event;

Whereas, there is no student organization committed to bringing organizations that center on creating a caring community among students;

Be it therefore resolved, that the Student Assembly adopts the following ad-hoc committee to establish the Student Assembly Cornell Caring Community Committee;

In an effort to bring together all undergraduates in order to promote health, friendliness and community networks to the Cornell Campus, the Cornell Caring Community Committee will put on a “Caring Event” each semester.

The primary charge of the Student Assembly Cornell Caring Community Committee (CCCC) will be to connect students with fellow classmates, neighbors and friends. The Committee will enhance student’s experiences on campus outside of the classroom. The Committee will create a strong network to combine all student organizations devoted to mental health and care on campus. Through the creation of this committee and by connecting with the Student Assembly, a dialogue between students, various organizations, administrators and the rest of the Cornell community will commence and encourage all to understand the importance of living outside of the stresses of academia.

Furthermore, the continual event (once a semester) held by the committee will allow students to look forward to and depend on an organization put on by students and for students that centers on the livelihood of every undergraduate at Cornell.

The Cornell Caring Community Committee (CCCC) shall consist of at least one SA member who will chair the Committee, the undergraduate Student Trustee, at least five undergraduate students at-large, an additional five undergraduate at-large students who represent mental health organizations on campus. Additional members may be selected by the Committee.
