Resolution 86

Whereas, in its inception, Ivy Council (hereafter “IC”) sought to bring student governments together, make statements and representation on behalf of all Ivy League students.

Whereas, in recent years, IC has chosen a different path, focusing on bringing the Ivies closer to other student government federations (such as in China) and on collaboration between Ivy groups of all kinds, beyond student governments,

Whereas, it is now IC’s position that the IC leadership and not member student governments should appoint the Head Delegate from each school,

Be it therefore resolved, that the Ivy Council is an independent not-for-profit organization with its own independent leadership structure, which facilitates collaboration between Ivy schools, and is not a representative of Cornell, Cornell students, or the SA, irrespective of the affiliations of any Ivy Council officeholders,

Be it further resolved, that the Cornell “delegation” to Ivy Council to be the Cornell chapter of a national organization, and identical to any Independent Organization as recognized by the Student Activity Office,

Be it further resolved, that the Student Assembly will no longer directly fund Ivy Council conferences,

Be it finally resolved, that Article XI Section II be stricken, which states:

The Ivy is comprised of representatives from all eight Ivy League school’s undergraduate student governments whose delegates meet biannually to discuss matters of importance to the member schools, to facilitate effective communication between the student governments of the member institutions, and to provide a unified voice for the Ivy League student governments. The membership of the Cornell delegation shall include a head delegate who shall be selected at the organizational meetings as well as three additional voting delegates to be selected by the Staffing Committee before the fall semi-annual conference. Additional provisions for the delegation are as specified in the Constitution of the Ivy Council.

Respectfully submitted,
