R.26 Continuation of Liaisons Between the Club Sports Council and the SAFC

Whereas the purpose of the “Club Sports Council is to provide a student voice for club sports on Cornell’s campus. The CSC is an association of student-run club sports teams united to provide opportunities for competitive sport activities and serve as a liaison between member teams, the Student Activities Office (SAO), the Student Assembly Finance Commission (SAFC), and Cornell University administration. The CSC will serve as a governing body for club sports and provide a forum for the exchange of information and resources among member clubs. The CSC hopes to promote participation in club sports programs and make recommendations for policies, procedures, and allocations pertaining to Cornell’s club sports”.

Whereas the past relationship between CSC and SAFC allowed for little interaction and thus limited ability to address the needs of club sports in the funding process but the current CSC/ SAFC liaison program for Fall 09 has improved communication between the two groups.

Whereas the Student Assembly Finance Commission allocates a significant percentage of its funds to club sports each semester and has historically allocated to this cap. Whereas the SAFC wishes to remove this ex ante cap on club sports, pending the approval of the Student Assembly.

Whereas the CSC wishes to seek byline funding for the next cycle and create its own internal funding process to accommodate the unique needs of club sports, and seeks guidance from the SAFC in accomplishing this task.

Be it therefore resolved, that the continuation of the liaison program between CSC and SAFC is contingent on the CSC fulfilling a reorganization process; that the CSC is expected to continue to upkeep its structure and membership requirements that pertain to all club sports which would require each team to send representatives to the governing body’s meetings; that this membership status and good standing be pre-requisite to applying under the status of a club sport during the funding process; that in the future the CSC may seek byline funding and propose a new internal funding procedure for its members separate from the SAFC, but still remain in close contact with the SAFC through the liaison program.

Be it further resolved that the changes put forward in this resolution will expire in Spring 2011 unless the SA, with the recommendation of the SAFC, takes affirmative action to renew them or to make them permanent.

Be it further resolved, that this resolution be forwarded to the Office of the Assemblies, and Anne Linker, the current leader of CSC.
