Subject of Resolution: | Smooth Transition |

Whereas, the Cornell Student Assembly is going to hold its first open elections for the Presidency this semester.
Whereas, the incoming President should be adequately informed as to the state of the assembly.
Whereas, the President of the Student Assembly has a multitude of obligations including, but not limited to: overseeing the affairs of all Student Representatives, maintaining a relationship with the Administration, and implementing the Robert’s Rules of Order.
Whereas, the outgoing President presumably has knowledge and experience that could benefit the newly elected President and the students at large.
Whereas, the Student Assembly Charter does not provide for a mentorship program between the outgoing and incoming President.
Whereas, a formalized process of preparing the President-elect will ensure an adequate transition for all future Presidents.
Be it therefore resolved, that the Student Assembly Charter be amended to provide for: Bylaw 4.1.f The day after the Presidential election, the outgoing President is obligated to inform the President-elect of the following mentorship program:
(1) Two weeks after the election, the President and President-elect must have met for no shorter than two hours to discuss Student Assembly issues and Presidential responsibilities.
(2) The President-elect must regularly attend meetings of the Executive Board and Student Assembly.
(3) The President-elect must attend the annual Student Leadership Institute at Cornell.
(4) Three weeks after the election, the President, Parliamentarian, and President-elect must have met to discuss the Parliamentary Procedures; in addition, the President-elect must pass the Student Assembly Examination on the Robert’s Rules of Order.
(5) Before the President’s term expires, the President-elect must return a signed document to the office of the Assemblies which reads, “I, (name of President-elect), have been fully prepared by the mentorship program to faithfully execute the responsibilities of the Student Assembly President.
The President must fulfill this duty the day after receiving the election results, and continue to be a mentor until his term in office has expired.
Respectfully submitted,
