Subject of Resolution:Creation of an ad-hoc Gorge Safety Committee
Status/Result:-

Whereas, Another Cornell University student, Douglas Arthur Lowe ‘11, suffered a tragic death in the gorges during the summer of 2008.

Whereas, A total of nine individuals have lost their lives in the gorges since 1986, and an additional ten rescue calls were made since 2001.

Whereas, Article 1, 1.3 of the Charter charges the Student Assembly with the “authority and responsibility to examine any matters which involve the interests or concern the welfare of the student community and to make proposals concerning those issues to the appropriate officers or decision-making bodies of the University.”

Be it therefore resolved, that the Student Assembly creates an ad-hoc committee, the Gorge Safety Committee, and charge it with the responsibility of devising solutions to combat the perils of the gorges.

Be it therefore resolved, that the committee be composed of students, University officials, and community members.
