R.2 Resolution Regarding Creation of an an-hoc Academic Integrity Drafting Committee

Whereas, The Committee to Consider Academic Integrity was charged by the UA last spring under former Dean of Faculty, Charles Walcott, to discuss and examine Cornell’s current Academic Code of Integrity. The Committee debated the strengths and weakness of the Code and ultimately, after discussion with the SA and others, decided that amending or replacing the code would benefit both students and faculty.

Whereas, The discussion of particular changes to the Academic Code of Integrity is still ongoing. The Committee to Consider Academic Integrity identified a problem in Cornell’s judicial system and the drafting committee proposed herein seeks to codify potential changes. Recommendations will be brought back before the Assembly for debate before adoption.

Whereas, Due to the collaborative nature of this project and given the Assembly’s future involvement, outlining a specific designation of undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty is unnecessary. This committee will consider and draft multiple, alternate, possible changes to the Code of Academic Integrity and all will be presented and considered to insure an exhaustive and honest debate.

Be it therefore resolved, that the Student Assembly, in conjunction with the UA and GPSA, creates an ad-hoc committee, the Academic Integrity Drafting Committee, and charge it with the responsibility of writing and considering a revised Academic Code of Integrity or an honor code for Cornell University.

Be it further resolved, that the committee be composed of undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty.
