April 27, 2013 Letter to President Skorton Re: R. 18

Dear President Skorton,

I am pleased to present to you GPSA Resolution 18, passed at the April 22nd meeting. Resolution 18 provides a recommendation to next year’s GPSA on the allocation of the Graduate and Professional Student Activity Fee (GPSAF) for students enrolled at Cornell NYC Tech campus.

The recommendation is based upon an understanding with a group in the administration that discussed this issue with the GPSA leadership. The GPSAF will be administered to the Cornell Tech students, but only the portions that contribute to the Cornell Club Insurance (currently $5.50/student) and GPSA (currently $1.84/student) will go to the entities on the Ithaca campus. The remainder, $73.66 per student, will go into a fund at Cornell Tech that will go to student activities and organizations based in New York City (similar to how the GPSA Finance Commission distributes funds to student groups at the Ithaca campus).

Among the group in the administration that came to this recommendation are Dean Knuth, Associate Dean of Students Holmes, Associate University Counsel Sechler, Vice President Murphy, and Vice President Dove from Cornell Tech. This resolution has been sent to these individuals as well.

Next year’s Appropriations Committee of the GPSA will determine the GPSAF and will ultimately be responsible for implementing this recommendation. Resolution 18 simply states the understanding with the administration and recommends this allocation for Cornell Tech students during next year’s fee setting activities.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

All the best,

Mitch
