GPSA: Letter to President RE: Resolution 8

Dear President Skorton,

I would like to convey to you GPSA Resolution 8: Resolution to Critique the Hiring of Associate Dean of Students for Inclusion, Engagement and Community Support and to Increase Funding to Advocacy Services, Support Resources, and Inclusion Programming. This resolution echoes many of the sentiments in SA Resolution 53. While not calling for the hiring process to be halted, this resolution does express criticism of the process by which this position was created. It does not seem that the students it would benefit had been consulted over this, and it is possible those university resources could very well have had better impact elsewhere. The resolution also asks that more funding be allocated to the various resource centers for minority students, and that these communities be more involved in university initiatives to improve the experience of minority students at Cornell.

Respectfully submitted, Richard Walroth
