From the Cornell Assemblies

GPSA: January 26, 2009

Whereas Article 2.4 of the Graduate and Professional Student Assembly (GPSA) Charter states that the GPSA will be consulted in the development of the University calendar; and

Whereas the faculty Education Policy Committee (EPC) is initiating discussion on beginning the fall semester on a Wednesday, by shortening fall orientation, when it has traditionally begun on a Thursday;

Be it therefore resolved that the GPSA supports/does not support beginning the fall semester on a Wednesday; and

Be it further resolved that the opinion of the GPSA is to add a day to the fall semester, which is already shorter than the spring semester/grant Labor Day as a holiday/extend Fall Break by one day/extend Thanksgiving Break by one day/other; and

Be it finally resolved that this resolution be circulated to David Harris, Interim Provost; Kent Fuchs, Provost; and William Fry, Dean of Faculty.

Respectfully submitted,

Michelle Leinfelder
GPSA President
