R. 3 Resolution Regarding Eligibility of Slope Day Programming Board for Byline Funding

Whereas, The Graduate and Professional Student Assembly biannually sets the Graduate and Professional Student Activity Fee; and,

Whereas, the guidelines for the allocation of the activity fee are described as in Appendix A of the Graduate and Professional Student Assembly’s charter and include requirements that university organizations obtain signatures from fifteen percent of the graduate and professional student body; and,

Whereas, the Slope Day Programming Board, a university organization, submitted an application for byline funding from the Graduate & Professional Student Activity Fee that was complete in all respects except for obtaining signatures from fifteen percent of the graduate and professional student body; and,

Whereas, the Slope Day Programming Board expended due effort to obtain 750 signatures from the graduate and professional student body; and,

Whereas, Slope Day Programming Board is the first organization to apply for funding from the Graduate and Professional Student Activity Fee since the creation of the activity fee solely for graduate and professional students; and,

Whereas, obtaining the requisite number of signatures may be prohibitively difficult for groups that in all other respects are deserving of byline funding; and,

Whereas, Appendix A of the Graduate and Professional Student Assembly Charter can be characterized as Special Rules of Order as defined in 2 of Roberts Rules of Order, the parliamentary authority of the GPSA and thus may be suspended by a 2/3rds vote.

Be it therefore resolved that the Graduate & Professional Student Assembly exempt the Slope Day Programming Board from the requirement to obtain signatures from 15% of the Graduate and Professional Student Body; and,

Be it further resolved that the Slope Day Programming Board’s application for byline funding, be considered for funding from the Graduate and Professional Student Activity Fee; and,

Be it further resolved that at the completion of the setting the activity fee the Funding Policy Committee shall review the signature requirement for new organizations applying for byline funding; and,

Be it further resolved that this resolution shall require two-thirds of the seated members of the GPSA to pass; and,

Be it further resolved that this resolution be sent to Shawn Kung, Chair of the GPSA Funding Policy Committee.

Respectfully submitted,
